It is still possible to install AST on a server with out shell access. You will need to use the binary release of AST, which does not have support for sftp. Simply upload the un-tared binary file and the contents of the data release into your cgi-bin on the webserver and it should work. You will still need to setup your crontab using some other tool and you will need to make sure that GNUPLOT is installed on your web server.
